Birdwatching For Family Fun! |
Pigeon gaze
Have you really looked at the pigeons around your yard lately or in the city halls? Maybe you just don’t notice and appreciate this birds because they are always around you and are used to having a lot people near (not totally near though) and around them.
Pigeons are one of the most unique birds there are. You are probably asking what made these birds unique when you see a lot of them around. If you look at one closely you will see the difference pigeons have.
These birds may not be the most admired and most searched for by bird watchers but they are out of the ordinary. They are the only birds that have different colors but they are all one and the same. There are no other bird species that have different colors but are within the same species.
Did you ever wonder why nobody has seen any baby pigeons around? Well it is because they are still in their nests and totally away from your prying eyes. Baby pigeons are never allowed to leave their nest till they are almost as big as their parents.
Another amazing characteristic these birds’ posses is their ability to have only one mate for their entire life. They only seek for another partner once the original partner dies. Isn’t that so nice?
Not only are they loyal to their partners but they help each other nurture and raise their baby pigeons! They equally sit on the egg till it hatches and take care and protect their baby till it grows a little stronger. By the time it grows a little bigger it is the father that normally feeds the baby with whatever food he finds outside the nest.
You must always have your bird watching kit with you in hand. Record all that you see with this beautiful bird. Take photos and jot down their different movements and their coo. Include its placement of colors and their mating rituals.
You can even help an organization named Project Pigeon Watch that compiles and studies the different colors and characteristics of these birds. Get involved and send them your findings so that it can help in the understanding of the pigeons. Your contributions will be a great addition to their increasing information about pigeons.
If you are very much concerned with their staying where they are now, take care of their environment then. Let them live long, let them be seen by your grandchildren.
